AGA MegaFlow Information | |
LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | Hi, I am currently planning a 125G tank setup and, besides many other things, I am wondering about the way I will hook up my filtration system. I have no experience with any tank that requires larger filters as I currently use a hang-on. I am keen on the AGA 125G tank (72x18x22) that comes optional with 2 MegaFlows as seen here: http://www.all-glass.com/products/aquariums/index.html Now, I cannot find any review of these MegaFlows and I am wondering if anyone here uses them in their tanks. My questions in particular are: - Are they easy to attach to the canister filters (I am planning on 2 Eheim 2028 Pro II)? - Are they easy to clean? - Are they reliable? - How high above ground is the first level of intake (would it interfere with 3in of gravel)? - Do you have a better solution? Thanks in advance for your help, Ingo |

This makes me wonder if I should get it then, given that you usually have a good answer to everything. Thanks, Ingo |

It intrigued me a lot, and if I was to go with a large tank (~150 gals.) then that kind of system looks very efficient, and the plumbing system they have to go with it looks pretty good, too. You're right, though, it would be good to know how high the lowest set of holes is and whether 3 inches of gravel would fit underneath. You could always put a small bit of mesh in front of the holes under the gravel if necessary, I suppose. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

The filters you described are fine for that you just have to get the proper fittings to work with the tanks plumbing to match your filter. I believe Eheim also makes a wet/dry filter that is often used with the overflow system. My Scapes |

I have no experience with hooking cannister filters with over flow boxes, or canister filters in general but you will have two overflow boxes in a 125, which means 4 holes, 2 3/4 inch and 2 1 inch. after the bulk heads i dont know how big the hoses on cannisters are but this is probably too big. also you probably dont want to buy the overflow box kits because they have anti-syphon holes, so you will have to make your own, because i think you need a syphon for a cannister fileter, don't you, i am not sure. LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | illustrae, tetratech, and Sonic2041 Thank you so much for your input, I already thought I am banned from FP Anyway, Sonic’s information about the hole size (1" and 3/4" ) seems to be rather important. As much as I know now, the inlet/outlet hose sizes for the Eheim Pro II are 5/8" and 1/2". I guess I should have known that this is not a perfect fit, given that 1 MegaFlow can handle up to 600GPH and one Eheim Pro II only 280 GPH. And in all honesty, I haven’t even looked yet into the siphon issue (need or avoid). Within the next few weeks, I will go to the lfs in my area and ask what they know ] ] I will keep you posted. Thanks again, Ingo Last edited by Little_Fish at 27-May-2005 08:46 |

Just cap 'em off and forget about 'em if you want to use the canister filters. If not, just it just like a regular overflow system, the "megaflow" just is their latest 5 dollar word to spice up an "overflow". i'm sure the "supermegaultraÜberflow" is right around the corner. |

They moved them into the back. If I cannot use them for the canister filters, well, then I don’t need them and as such would get a tank without the holes etc. Thanks again for the input, Ingo |

DarkRealm Overlord Moderator metal-R-us Posts: 5962 Kudos: 2166 Registered: 23-Sep-2002 | they actually renamed them to Megaflow when they started to copy Durso standpipes instead of using the cheesie ones that they use to use. the old style were loud and actually created a siphon instead of a gravity feed like the durso standpipes do. |
