Yes. In a heated room, but this would be very uncomfortble to be in. There are heat pads sold for the purpose of raising seedlings.

Last night in bed i had an idea that i would like to ask about. Hot water bottles place near a tank would increase the water temp right? and as it cools down it only cools gradually so is there a chance that this may work ?

Doesn't sound very reliable to me... maybe if you gave an example of why you want to use an alternative method other than a heater, and what size tank...what temperature is where the tank is at and what temp you're trying to keep the tank at. I know of some "solar" methods of heating, but it'd require a pump, and if you have electriciy and money for a pump, you might as well shell out the $10 for a heater.

I am getting a heater but i was just asking about alternatives. My room temp gets to 60F during the day and about 69 - 75F at night time.

I saw online once a step by step detail of someone building a huge tank outdoors. To help out with the heating, they used a wood case that was sealed with water hose connections on each side. Inside the case was black hosing that was looped around, with a black backdrop. The side facing up was mostly glass. The sun would shine through the glass and the black color of everything inside would absorb the heat better, and the enclosure would act like a little greenhouse. A water pump pumped the water through this contraption, and into a insulated heating tank. The heated water was then circulated as needed to maintain temperature. I guess the insulated heating "resovoir" kept it hot enough to be used at night as well, but I don't know what he did during a few days of limited sunlight or something.

Well the room gets hotter at night as we have a fire on all night. And as for the green house thing outside - that wouldn't work as i have a crazy dog that attacks anything and anyone who comes to the house.
