Before i start i wasn't sure wether to put this in technical tinkering but i thought i'd try here first.

I have 2 25 watt Blue moon - Actinic tubes in my 33g. What i wanted to know is can fish sence the blue light? as the koi i have in there at the moment don't freak out at when i turn them on? is it just koi or do other fish not see the light?? or are the koi just chilled out

p.s - About the koi. They are there temproarily as i had to steal them out my grandads 10g tank. When my uncle comes back in 6 days they will be transferred into his pond.

Hi,
There may be some confusion in terms here. Stateside,
there is alot of interest in "moon light" and lots of folks
are adding an addition light or tube to their tanks to
simulate a full moon night that allows them to see into
their tanks as if lit by the moon.

True Actinic blue lights are 20,000K and above, lights.
They are far too bright for freshwater fish and are
normally only used in SaltWater tanks in which corals
and other invertebrates are housed.

If they are truely actinic blue lights, manufactured by
Blue Moon Company, I would discard them and use lights
marked "Daylight, or Sunlight" or bulbs in the 6700K
range.

If they are what is called "moon lights" over here, then
they are not very bright, and are designed to simulate
moon light, and the fish won't even notice the lights are
on. If this is the case, I would add a white light,
in the 6700K range for daylight, for 10 hrs/day, and
then use the other at night for a few hours before going
to bed.
