they are mostly for coldwater tanks.. mostly in saltwater... i personally dont own one, but the size and temperature capability depends on what temp you need it to be at...

We usually have hot summers & so the tank temperature rises above 30 deg.cel. I would like to get a chiler, so i'll keep the temperature below the 30 mark.

Last year i lost a couple of fully grown N.brichardi & the year before, the Corydoras had red blotches, due to the high temperatures.

Hi,
Here is an ad for Chillers. This will give you an
opportunity to see what sizes and shapes they come in.
Note at the top of the pictures of the chillers there
are articles to read specifically about them.

If it is a daily thing, you can try to frozen bottle trick. I use it when transporting fish I catch back home in the hot summer days. I take a 2 liter bottle, fill it 5/6 of the way full, and freeze it. Then just place one at a time in the tank till it melts. I use 85 gal plastic tubs to transport the fish in, and put one at a time in them in the back of my truck. Then stop and change them out about every 2 hours. Keeps the water temp at about 76F when the outside temp is 80s and 90s.

And a heater in the tank would counter balance the temp from going to low. This would be a much more inexpensive way to keep your tank cool.

I cannot do the frozen bottle trick, as i cannot stay with the tank all day. I work long hours 4 days a week & so i cannot be at home to change the bottles.

I used to do the frozen bottle ritual, on my planted tank, but the temp. was still over 30 deg.cel.

Thanks alot once again.

Teco is considered the best of the best and has a price tag to match
Aquamedics are considered to be very good high end chillers
