Are DIY tanks cheaper than buying a tank? I'd like to make a large tank, 100 gallons plus, but I was wondering if it would be more economical to just buy one.

I really don't think you save any money unless you have a source that can get you the supplies at wholesale. Marine grade plywood (which is really what you should use) is very expensive or if you go the all glass route I think it is just cheaper (and sometimes safer) to just purchase it pre-made.

However, some of the benefits are that you can make the tank to dimensions that you may not be able to purchase and also it does give you a sense of accomplishment when finished, set-up and running.

I built a couple of takes several years ago, but those costs wouldn't really relate today as there is such a greater assortment of pre-mades available now.

Anyways if you chose to build your own, Good Luck./:'

There are several factors you must consiser.
Your skills to be able to construct what you require.
The over all sellecting and geting all the materials.
The total cost compared to a good quality bought tank.

Yes there is the please of saying "I made it"

Even with all my trade skills I would not even think of it in comparison to all the costs involved and what I could buy one for without any worries at all.
