Joe Potato Fish Addict Kind of a Big Deal Posts: 869 Votes: 309 Registered: 09-Jan-2001 | Three days? Don't worry about it. Provided they're not fry, a fish can easily go three days without food. Just turn the light off before you leave and they'll be just fine for when you get back, albeit a little hungry. But that just means they will love you all the more when you feed them. Usually, you only have to worry about feeding once you get up to about a week or more. Also, even if you feel tempted, DO NOT throw in a lot more food than normal before you leave just so that there are "scraps" in the tank for the fish to browse on. You'll just foul up your water. I had one installed when we used to be away for several weeks at a time. As far as three days not a problem just give them a good feeding (not over feed) before you leave. Check every thing else to make sure it is working corectly and dont worry it will not harm them at all in fact it will clean up the tank a bit. If you do not have two heaters in the tank I would get the second one as this is one thing you do not want to break down while away. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I agree with other posters that you will not need such a unit for 3 days, but you will if you are going away for longer. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_2/cav2i4/impressions/feeder_impressions.htm Hope this helps |

The new one is made of completely fish flakes. I been reaching them as I too am leaving on vacation, but I think I'm going to just have my family come by and feed them, I just use a pill organizer to divide the food for each tank. The repercussions of a glitch make me worry. I would rather my lil guys be extra happy to see me reaching for the food canister when I get home after the 3 days away.
