How often should I change a biowheel? I feel silly asking this, but am afraid if I ask the lfs they will say to buy one because then they can make a buck...is that synical?

Hi,
Yes, it is cynical. I don't believe you have to replace
the biowheels unless the axles become pitted or scuffed up
to where they no longer turn. Theoretically they should
last forever. Practically speaking the felt that the
bacteria thrive on, may crack and fall off. That is when
I would change them.

You should never have to replace the bio-wheels, unless they become severley damaged, ive had my wheels for years and never replaced them. just clean the bearing areas.
