Is there a minimum-maximum height distance:
from where the canister sits on the floor to the top of the tank.

I'll be upgrading to a taller tank and was wondering if I should elevate my canister.

I wouldn't think so, as long as you have enough tubing to connect to the cannister and to the tank...if there seems to be a problem once you have upgraded the stand height, go down to walmart or other store, and get yourself one of the storage drawer sets this will provide 2 functions, raising the heighth, and giving you a place to store all of those little extra things that go along with having a tank:%)heidi

I remember when I set up my Eheim Canister there are factors to be considered. Mainly the further the canister away from the outlet the harder the pump must work.

I have a 5ft tank and the canister is next to the tank with the top of the canister level with the base of the tank. This is also for ease of access. Not bending to low to check it out or lifting it out monthly.

Also I think you will loose some preasure if it is too far away from the outlet as well.

In the manual for the eheim I have it gave maximum head heights for the different models. The more powerful the pump, the higher the head. The one I have has a max. head of 4 feet 3 inches.

I have a 2215.

I checked the instruction manual. All it says was to make sure the filter sits under the water level. Then I looked on the box and it reads:

Delivery head m wat. col.
1,80
(5'10" ft. wc)

Is this the max distance?

The way I read it, 5'10" would be the max height from the filter to the water line. My manual had a diagram showing the heights.
