Canister for 29 gal | |
Pristellapower Fingerling Posts: 48 Kudos: 39 Votes: 0 Registered: 01-Nov-2005 | My question is pretty simple. What is the best canister filter for a 29 gallon freshwater tank? It is planted and a little overstocked.I have 1 aquaclear 70 and 1 penguin 170 right now,and it is always cloudy.I was looking at a rena canister.I see so many opinions on things that I am confused. It seems like too many people have problems with fluval. So It is between Rena and Eheim. |

Remember cost equals quality. Have a look in [link=My Profile]http:// www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/forums/profile.asp?userid=6741" style="COLOR: #00FF00[/link] for my tank info [link=Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tanks]http://photobucket.com/albums/b209/keithgh/Betta%20desktop%20tank/" style="COLOR: #00FF00[/link] Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Try these sites: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/ http://www.aquariumguys.com/ Eheim is the best, but Fluval isn't bad. I like fluval and the parts ect.. are east to find. If you wanted to go with something easier to maintain, go with the Aquaclear 500. It would be more than enough to keep that tank clean. http://www.aquariumguys.com/aquaclear3.html |

Both came brand new in box sealed and have been running solid since I got them Jebo Odyssea CFS 4. Only other place I've seen it online goes for bout $75, offline in stores, starts at $130 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46310&item=7708600294 The other I have is a Eheim 2028, which I got for only $60, and havent been able to find anybody to touch that price. But then again, ebay is like everything, its all in how you shop and watch who you buy from. Only thing I haven't bought for my tanks on there was the tanks, lights, rock and fish. Everything else, all of my heaters, airpumps and filters was on ebay with solid quality. But yes, Foster Smith is a good place for heaters. Price even beats Bigalsonline.com. I went to 3 different forums for opinions. Majority of the people like eheim and have had no problems with them but there are at least 2 people on here that wouldn't touch an eheim with a 10' pole. I just think they are way overpriced and there are other cannisters that will do as good of job for half the cost. I ended up with a jebo odyssea since they have the same setup as an eheim but cost alot less and have media baskets. I see eheim has created a basket setup you can add to their filters since then. Otherwise people were telling me it can take hours to change all the media because you have to lift it all out seperately. Jebo always uses fairly cheap parts but so far I've had no problems with any of their products. Fluvals are slightly less popular but still in the top 2, break more often than eheims, are a bit noisier, and have some media bypass where the water flows straight from input to outtake without going through the media. However they are cheaper than eheim, it's easier to change the media, and most people who use them would agree that they still do their job. Rena filters are considered the noisiest by anyone who has compared various brands and other than that I couldn't get much info on them. All I got told was they work well but are noisy. If money is not an ob |

I did some looking into these filters a few weeks ago, I was thinking of buying one, but I could not find parts. I would hate to pay that kind of money for a filter that I couldn't get parts for. |

Finding one of the same dimensions might be a problem since I didn't see any on jebo's site but so far the impeller seems to be pretty sturdy. Just don't run a ton of sand through the filter without the media in to stop it before it reaches the impeller and it should be fine. The rest of it is pretty standard parts. You could probably use another brand. |
