Condensation in Heater | |

Can I reseal it with aquarium silicone, or is that as improbable as I think? Stupid heater isn't even a year old. I am NOT happy. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

The one with the rubber over the temperature adjuster, which makes it nearly impossible to figure out if you've actually TURNED the thing or not. Makes it a pain to adjust it at first, but the thing is actually pretty reliable. I was bleaching out the tank that my betta died in and saw the condensation... drat it, anyway. Kind of figured I'd have to replace it, but didn't really want to. Those lil buggers are expensive! ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

These things are not assembled in a "clean & dry" room and the ambient air is trapped inside the glass when they are sealed shut. Normally it will show as a thin film of condensation around the area between the contacts (they turn the heater on and off) and the heating element in the ba heater will give you many years of operation. Eventually, the moisture will cause corrosion of the contacts and connections, at which time you can discard it and purchase another, or take it apart clean it, and run it for a few more years. There was quite a bit of condensation in the heater, like, I could see big droplets of water, not just condensation. That wasn't there before... Anyway, I bought a new one (same brand *shrugs*) and found out that they - yay! - have a one year warranty. Now just to find that receipt in the big pile of fishy receipts I have. [/font] ~Meow. They are much cheaper of the 25w availabilities. I have been using the 25w Visitherms, which have a really nice knob for turning. I have not had any problems with any of my 25 or 50w Visitherms.
