DIY Tank hood | |

Anyone have any good websites or plans for building a very user friendly hood for a tank? I wasn't sure if one or two opening lids would be best, i.e. one for light and one for feeding, how much clearance is needed for filters and stuff across the back side, how high of a profile should it have, i.e. 4-7 inches tall, should the lid overhang or be a flush mount. My current tank is plastic and I'm not sure what the wooden ones do. Thanks for any ideas, amackattack |

These are just a few of dozens: http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/diyhoodcanopylighting/DIY_CanopyHoodLight_Plans.htm http://www.aquarium-lighting-guide.com/directory/diy_projects.php http://freshaquarium.about.com/od/canopiesandhoods/Canopies_and_Hoods.htm http://www.aquaristsonline.com/blog/aquarium-diy/aquarium-diy-have-fun-and-save-some-money/ To make room for heaters, and filter intake/return hoses one generally wants to allow for between an inch to two inches of space depending upon the size of the tank and filter types. Some use flexible hoses, and others use rigid plastic. You will have to decide which filter you want to use and design around it. I already have some ideas, but something tried and true will be nice to add or confirm that I am right or outright crazy. Thanks again, Alec/amackattack |
