Does anybody here make their own aquariums? | |

However, it is definitely possible to do so. When building your own aquarium, you can cut costs more by not making the entire aquarium from glass. I've heard of tanks build that were four sides of wood and only a window in the front. The GARF site has plenty of information here: http://www.garf.org/howtodoinformation.htm#AquariumConstruction Here is a nice link about someone building an aquarium: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_1700g_tank_1.php -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

I thought a 12"X12"X12" cube would be a neat little tank but I priced out the glass and it came to $60 USA. I quickly droped the idea for now... 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

Another source for salvaged glass can be from window replacement companies as they typically just trash or recycle the glass panes. If you talk nice enough you may be able to con them out of some for a real low price or even for free. With the size tank you are wanting to make you don't need real heavy glass for the construction. Good luck if you go ahead and build one. Just a thought....Glass repairers take away the broken pieces from windows etc, maybe they have pieces big enough for cutting to make a tank and will sell cheap or even give away??
