I have a bag of Ultra Fine Carbon for the canister but its too small to fit in the compartments. Is there anything at a LFS to keep it from falling through?

I know that you can get fine mesh bags to keep the carbon in.
I have also heard of people using a stocking or basically anything that is fine enough to hold the carbon.
Good Luck.

You should be able to get them from your LFS.

I"m curious as to how much carbon I should put in the mesh bag I've bought? Should it fill up the cylinder? The mesh bag is long and slim..

you know the little compartment in the fluval where you ad the media? you do not need more than 1 in thickness MAX of carbon. get the mesh bag, depending on how big the bag is, fill it about a 3rd with carbon, then tie it and FOLD the end over a little so no carbon flys out into the water.
rinse it b4 you add it to the canister. poof you're done
