I tried to make a new canister for mine and failed miserably. You could do the typical 2L pop bottle, then you would need aquarium silicone, a drill, a check valve, the yeast, sugar and water. Does the ladder come with the tubing? If so then that should be all you need something you may want is a CO2 indicator, not a controller, basically I think it tests pH and KH and does the calculation for you, I'm looking into one for my tank. If you get the whole kit, don't bother buying refills for it, it is just yeast (activator), baking soda (stabilizer), you add the sugar and the water. See Here]http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/thread.aspx?id=26610&rp=100[/link] for my tanks transformation to CO2 and better light, and [link=Here for my failed DIY experiment. But a tip from Piscesgirl in this thread on the hose barb adapter fixed that issue. My biggest problem with DIY these days is just making sure I replace the mixture on a regular basis. ^_^ |

I haven't heard from you in awhile, you've been very quiet here and the other place, you being sneaky on us? I wound up eating my words, I now have 2 2L pop bottles hanging beside the tank producing CO2 for me, the Hagen canister was too small! There are ways of making the canister top easier, hose barbs, bulkhead fittings. I did the traditional tubing through a hole, sealed with aquarium sealant. I found it was easier to put the sealant on the tube part that goes inside the bottle, then pull it up through the lid just a bit then seal the top. Otherwise it is just too small to get in there and properly seal it. The ladder is great for a diffuser, the tubing that comes with it, never throw it away, you may need more of it down the line. I did break down and get one for the 10 gallon as well and it works great in there, now I have a spare bottle for that one to make changes faster. I have not gotten the c02 thing yet, as I am trying to find one with a better price. I really cannot bring myself to pay 49.95 for a product that just 1 week ago was marked 32.95. I told the LFS that as well, that the mark up was "frickin ridiculous" my exact words. I am currently watching one on ebay for about half the retail price even after shipping. I will let you know when and if I get it! I am still trying to deal with these stupid camallanus worms and havent really been concentrating too much on anything else Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
