Well, I got two free ten gallons (odd size, I think... look standard, but are taller than my ten? 20" x 10" x 14" are the measurements) and hoods to go with them. Seem like nice hoods... have a biowheel and filter built in. I'd say Eclipse, but it has "Regent" emblazoned on the front. *shrugs* Not like I've even had a hood like this before.

Anyway, the deal is that I have no idea how to set up the filter part of it. One hood is missing the pump, that much I can tell you. The other has the pump, biowheel and a filter pad in it, so at least I know what I need to get for the one that's missing pieces.

I grabbed my digicam and snapped some quick shots... here's what I can figure out. The only bit of instruction is the label on the flap that covers the filter bit, which shows how to direct the cords. Of course, the pump shown on the label doesn't seem to be exactly like the one I have.

Filter pad and Biowheel seem brand new. I did blast them out with hothothot water, so is it okay to use them or should I replace them? I do know that the lady who had these tanks before me did have deaths, which caused her to quit the hobby. Dunno what the fish died from, though.

This is the pump...

I *think* this is how it goes...

And this is how it look from underneath when I hang it like it is in the previous pic.

Yes, this is the laundry room... love the ancient towels, eh?

Obviously the parts needed to be cleaned a bit more, but I figured I'd stop and take pics. *shrugs* Any clues? If I can figure out exactly what I have here, I'm sure I can get hold of Regent and see if they'll send me a manual?

In the meantime, does it look like anything's missing? And do I have this set up correctly? I'm not going to be using the filter right away, so it's not a dire rush for info, but I was hoping to figure this out...

Hi,
Yes, it reminds me of the old Eclipse system too.
It looks like you have everything assembled correctly.

Scrub everything, and replace the disposable parts.

The only other thing I would do is add a short length
of tube to the intake of the pump extending the intake
down lower into the tank.
You should be able to pick up the needed
odd parts for that at your lfs. Barring that, I would
stick a piece of sponge around the intake to prevent
curious fish and/or snails from getting into the pump.

Good point, Frank, I was thinking that intake looked a bit short. ...Especially considering the high rate of evaporation in my room. I like the idea of the sponge, too. I can replace the pad and wheel... no big, though it seems a shame, as at least the biowheel looks brand new. No discoloration at all. Could I just drop it in some boiling water to get all the yuckies out?

There's a big space on the left side, even after putting in the pump. You suppose that's for a heater? It almost looks like that slot might be for a non-submersible type heater. *shrugs* I'd use a submersible, anyway, but that's kind of what it looks like that spot is for...

Eh... not a bad deal for free, I suppose... two tanks, two hoods with filters built in... even if I have to replace parts.

Hi,
Well, you could use the existing media, but your comment
about having all her fish die off as the reason for leaving
the hobby, franky frightened me. The die off could have
been as simple as a problem with the nitrogen cycle, in
which case the media "could" be alright. Or, it could have
been some type of disease, in which case I would not chance
it. I guess it's your call. Oh, yes the gap was for a
small heater.

Kitten,

Looks like you've got yourself an Eclipse 1 Filtration & Illumination System. From what I could find online, Regent is/was a sub-division of Marineland.

Since this is still a current product, you should be able to find a replacement intake tube and strainer (what I could see was missing from your pictures). Most places sell these parts, but you can always go online, like bigalsonline.com, or the Marineland website.

You can find a product manual for it here:

Looks like the hood setup on my Uncle's Eclipse 6, looks like everything is where it is suppose to be. As mentioned above add a intake tube so its about 1 inch from your gravel bed and give it a wirl, should work just fine, unless the pump is dead.

Ok the thing that caught me...probably the craziest thing too, sorry...the size doesn't seem to be a 10 gallon...if the measurements are 20x10x14 it seems that you have a 12 gallon tank...weird size in my opinion...and like I said you may not even care...but it just caught me offguard and thought you might want to know...best of luck....oh on the biowheel...if it was me (though I've never had a biowheel) I'd boil it, sponge also if it looks new, send it through the dishwasher (topshelf) and reboil...that should kill anything it might have thought about having....

Yeah, I know, the size is really weird... taller than the average ten gallon and not as deep front to back. I threw the numbers at the volume calculator as well and came up with 12 gallons, too. *shrugs* Eh, I suppose this way it truly does hold about ten once you figure in gravel?

Actually, when I first saw the tanks, I almost thought they might be 15 gallon highs, but they didn't seem quite tall enough. It IS an odd size, but actually looks quite nice.

Right now, one of them is serving as an attempt at a betta breeding tank, as one of my females is huuuuge with eggs and doesn't seem to want to pass them as she normally does. The other tank is sitting off to the side, waiting for a free spot. I'll have to look into replacement parts for the stuff that's missing, but other than that, I'm quite happy with this find.
