Gosh - haven't posted here in more than 7 months... good to be back

I'm thinking about getting a bigger tank and was wondering what was standard thickness for glass..

The tanks I am looking at are 3 foot or 4 foot tanks, and so far the glass thicknesses are 5-6mm. I'm really really scared about tanks bursting, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I would go for a 5mm for a 3 foot tank & 6mm for a 4 foot tank. Remember to make some support on the sides.

This chart has come in handy a few times [link=http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/aquariumdiy/l/blcustomtank.htm]http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/aquariumdiy/l/blcustomtank.htm" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link]

There's also a more complicated calculator where you actually have to do some math on this page [link=http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/aquariumdiy/a/aa052903DIYcust.htm]http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/aquariumdiy/a/aa052903DIYcust.htm" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link]

If the tank is made by a good quality manufacturer it will be the correct thickness and will come with a good gurantee.

Beware of the elcheapos and there are plenty they can use cheap second grade glass.

That is certainly a helpful site.

Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.
