Hi
We have recently set up a quarantine tank and have been having problems with the heater.
We have a small 30 litre (8 gal) tank and bought a 25W heater to maintain it. Well, it never turned off! The temp went to 28C so I turned the heater to its lowest setting, 20C and it still pumped out the heat! I changed the thermometer in case it was reading incorrectly but the problem stayed.
Anyway, we had enough and took the heater back to the shop and bought an Aqua-one 25W as replacement. The people at the shop were great and swapped it no probs.
Now we find we are having the same problem with this one, I am at present adjusting the settings to see if it will turn off at any stage but no luck so far.
My question is, Is a 25W heater to small for a 30 litre tank and this is causing the problem?
We placed our spare 100w in it and had no problems with temp maintanence.....
Any suggestions welcome!
Cheers
Darren

Odd, a 25w heater should be just the right size for that tank. Maybe you have bum luck and got two bad ones in a row?

Completely disconnect the 25W heater for 30 minutes. Turn it to its lowest setting, then plug it in. See if this procedure resets the internal thermostat.

Maybe a 50 watt is what you need. Is your house temp very different from your tank temp? This would make a hard for a small heater to keep temp. Make sure there is good circulation of heated water.
