I've just gotten a used Magnum 350 and I don't know how to prime it. Can anyone help me out?

Initially, fill the cannister with either tap water or tank water to within a quarter inch of the rim. Carefully place and fasten the lid. Voila!

Subsequently, I would use tank water if you are using the cannister with bio-balls. It is easier to preserve your bacteria colony.

No, I already tried simply filling it with water. I knew enough to try that. I found a copy of the instructions manual online, so I'll try what they say there, and if I have any problems I'll ask again.

Yanna, Magnums are essentialy self priming.

Fill the canister to fill line. Secure top making sure to seat the lid properly. Have hoses in tank. Turn unit on - the magnet driven impeller should start pushing water right away. Wait about 30 seconds and shut the unit back off. Water will rush back down through the hoses and will fill displace the air that was left in the canister above the fill line. The hoses in the tank will bubble that air out and you may need to wipe up some bubbled out tank water. Turn unit back on - and away it goes with no splashy air sounds.
