I was given the "ECLIPSE 29 COMBO" as a gift. However, I am thinking it was the worse gift someone could have given me. nevertheless, I am hoping I am wrong.

Here is my problem, and I am hoping you have a fix for it, the tank is to be used for my Rainbowfish fry, and the current is way to strong. I tried reading and searching for a way to turn it down some (so it won't whip the little guys around) can anyone give advice on how I might be able to achieve what I am looking for? (I have tried putting rubberbands around the two outlets to break up the flow, this helped only some, but not enought) I also have a Lustar Hydro-Sponge Filter 2 for a 20 gal and the tube looks to be as big as the intake tube, I was thinking maybe I could hook that up to the intake tube? OK, I may not have a lot of good ideas, but I can't take the hood back now, and surly don't wnat to hurt any feelings here.

Thanks for any help.

The problem is when you slow the flow down your going to risk burning up the motor. The best way would be to see if you can put on another filter of smaller size or remove the filter and run a sponge or internal filter. The least likely way to do damage to the filter but still get a lower water flow is to pack it full of filter media so it can't push the water through as well. It will overflow some from overtop the intake tube. I've done that on my ram breeding tank and it worked but I replaced the filter within a couple months anyway. The most effective way I've heard is to either replace the impeller with one from a smaller filter of the same brand or cut the gs on the impeller shorter. This has a fairly large chance of error though and may end up causing you to buy a new impeller or again burn up the motor.

you only risk burning up the motor if you slow the intake part of the motor down...you can however slow the output end of the pump down..

Without having the tank in front of me its hard to picture so I cant really offer any suggestions..sorry

here is the link to the lid. If you look at the manual you can see the set up it has.

Hope that helps.

It sounds like it has the same filter as my eclipse 5g hex so you probably can't replace it with the same type of filter. I don't know if you can use a regular hob filter but I replaced mine with a small internal filter because it had too much flow for my sparkling gouramis.

This same question has been answered many times and it is always the same it basically cannot be done without putting pressure on the motor either by insufficient water inlet or building up a back pressure from the out let causing a motor burn out. Some internal filters are designed to have a variable water out let, my Eheim 2008 has such a system.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info
