houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | OK Mods, I know this should be in technical tinkering, but so far I really haven't had a lot of help, though I do thank Sneaky-Pete for their advice, and those that could help...maybe being in this area might help a bit better? Thanks, heidi OK with that said, let me give you some history of what has happened for those that don't know... February 2005 I bought my newest tank. It is a 125 gallon. With it I went on the advice of several people that a canister filter would do a great job for me on this tank, and I bought 1 Eheim, and 1 I believe Jeebo...Well, I was able to get the Jeebo running no problem, put an HOV on the tank that is under what is needed, but I would rather have more filtration than not enough, added airstones, gravel, and started cycling it... March Still fussing and fight the dang Eheim 2213 canister filter, but I start stocking the tank, figuring that the other canister is rated for about 75 gallons, and my HOV is rated for 55, and that I should be fine...so I began with my me April I decide that the stupid canister isn't going to waste my money and it is gonna work if it is the last thing I do, so I start cussing it daily...kicking it and hitting it at times, and always glaring at it...I even make a post in technical tinkering about the dang thing hoping someone else could tell me where I've gone wrong...and yes, I've gotten some good advice. May Still cussing and kicking and working with the stupid thing but to no avail, so as I just wrote to Sneaky Pete: Well, I've tried sucking, I've tried blowing, I've tried cussing, I've tried yelling, I've tried whining, I've tried pleading, I've tried barganing, I've tried begging, I've thrown things at it, I've kicked it, I've hit it...and yet it does nothing]:| Wait a minute that is wrong... Last night I left the flipping thing plugged in, and set up thinking maybe it will work overnight, and this morning it had done something, it had managed to drain half the flipping tank into my living room]:|I now know that if abt. 65 gallons of water is dumped into my little apt, it will all flow away from the door, but to the front corner of the living room till the living room is about 3 inches deep in water:%) But, guess what? It still is not working...I can barely hear the motor running, but figured it was a quiet motor...If I go and pop two of the brackets in about 5 seconds it will start sprouting water everywhere...yet, when i reseal it, it quits doing anything and everything... I'm about ready to call Eheim and send it back to them with an ugly letter, demanding my money back... Now here is the catch, I am now having trouble getting the other canister on the other end to start up]:|I'm sure I'll get it going once I've calmed down some, but I couldn't deal with it at the time and leave the thing in one piece so i had to leave or destroy the house Oh and topping the tank off I did that as well, I filled the tank right up to the center support glass piece and halfway up it, so it was topped off... I really wonder if a canister filter is worth all this trouble or if I don't want to go and start with a UGF that I know I can depend on to do it's job... Present moment So does anyone have a solution? I have it set up as Sneaky Pete said to. I even set it on top of a plastic boc to raise the level of the canister...My tank is roughly 48-50 inches from ground to lip of the tank...I even filled the dang thing to almost over flowing last night....someone help me please? I would really appreciate it...and so would the fishies I'm sure... heidi Last edited by heidi michelle at 23-May-2005 21:51 "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Go to: Eheim filters Click on the "contacts" label at the top right hand corner of the page when you hit the English language version of the site (there's a German version too, naturally enough). Then you'll get a page with a picture of a PC on it. Click on the words next to the pic of the PC, and a submission form will pop up. Fill in the form and they should get back in touch with you. |

muss Hobbyist Posts: 63 Kudos: 54 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Feb-2004 | Hi Heidi, If you are close to where you bought the Eheim, take it back to them and get the staff to run you through the correct procedure of setting up the pumps/filters. Any reasonable supplier would have gone through a setting up demo for you to make sure you got it right the 1st time. Please don't give up just yet as it is easy to set up Eheims etc. if given all the correct infomation and shown how to use the taps when cleaning and maintaining filters and correct assembly of o-rings etc. Once operating in the correct manner they can provide many years of faithful service.( 30 years plus if maintained correctly). Hint#1. When reassembled canister filter and taps turned to the on position, invert the whole canister with the motor runing to help clear the air trapped in the top of the cannister, this may have to be done several times to get the air clear and the motor should be quiet when operating. Check daily the output of filter to check correct operation. Hint#2. When assembling top of Eheim make sure the O-ring is in the correct position as you place the motor assembly on the ba Good Luck. I took it home to check out how to install it. I did require one part (not Eheim) a small right angle PVC connector which I had to add to join up the outlet tubing. I also was not too sure on a couple of the extra parts. It took it back bought the part I required (Eheim) an extra for another Eheim model. We put it all together in the shop and from that point onwards never a problem. There could be something wrong or a part missing or you have not assembled it correctly. I would take it all back and get it sorted out. If this is impossible contact Eheim and ask them for your local Eheim distributer and then explain it all to them. houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | ok I will go home and turn the whole flipping thing upside down and see if that helps... You see if I take the output hose and lower it outside the tank, it will start spraying...that is why i raised the level of the dang canister]:| I will also go home and take the lid all apart again, I mean what can I lose at this point? My sanity is already gone from dealing with it:%) And then if I can't get it working I'm calling or emailing eheim...because I've really had enough of this, because I'm really sick of being the only one or one of the very few who has ever had a problem with the dang filter, and I know i'm not that dang stupid...tonight I'll take pictures of how it is set up, maybe that will help? heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." When you do want to disconnect it for cleaning, just close the valves first, then unplug it, and when you bring it back to the tank full of water, hook it up, plug it in, then wait about 45 seconds, then release the valves. you should have no more problems with it. *does happy filter working dance with heidi* Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

The instructions were poor & limited. The trapped air thing drove me potty until a friend suggesting turing it upside down. I dread cleaning it out as every time I have a little flood. & then I get so much trapped air I have to swishy it again. I have a 130g(uk) set up with this & It's due another clean out...(oh joy a 2 hour job, lots of me getting wet & row with my b/f) but I know I'll feel better with more practice. Good luck. |

I have no earthly idea...not breathing in the proper rhythm? not holding my mouth right? not using the right string of foul words in the correct order? I really have no idea...but the above instructions are what i will follow next time i have troubles, and knowing my luck they won't work then Oh and justice againyou are so correct about it being the most poorly written instructions there are]:|even IKEA's directions are better than the Eheim's, well at least IKEA has pictures with letters and numbers...the rest is up to you but i am so thankful that it is finally working...and we won't talk about the jokes the maintenance guy made about the flood:%) I miss those times I miss those nights I even miss the silly fights The making up The morning talks And those late afternoon walks I miss my friend The one my heart and soul confided in The one I felt the safest with ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last edited by houston at 24-May-2005 21:46 "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Eheims instructions are worse than most digital camera book instructions. Though I do have a better one it is a translation from Japanese to English on how to pot up an orchid with photos supplied.
