Any fish tank has a certain amount of water loss through evaporation. In a well ventalated room there should be no problems. There will be a noise factor but this can be reduced by buying a quality tank/fittings. Remember you will have to carry water in and out of the bedroom. You will also require a light timer. The water movement/sounds are also very relaxing.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Make sure that you have tight-fitting lids with the backings and you won't notice any extra moisture in the air at all. Keith is right about there being noise, but that depends on the type of equipment and how clean it is.

I have three tanks in my bedroom. No mold at all.

Welcome to the forums, by the way.

okay, thanx. And the noise should be a probem because i sleep with a fan on, so i'll just make sure i get a tank with a tight lid and whatnot.

My 'big time' 55 gallon in in my bedroom and I have not noticed anything strange. It's already really humid down here, so I doubt I would notice anyway. I have glass Versa-Top lids on there, and the only noise is from my HOB, but it is the "babbling brook" kind of noise that people pay x-tra money for..... My best friend from high school came down and stayed with me and she BEGGED me not to turn the 'waterfall' sound off. LOL I told her that it was unlikely since my tank needed that filter (nevermind the cannister that is sufficient for the tank ). Go for it, and tell your 'rents that it's all good!!

It's no different having it in a bedroom than anywhere else in the house. I suppose in certain cases the evaporation can cause problems but I haven't actually heard any. I had 3 tanks in my bedroom including a 55g and never noticed any issues. Some people have rather large tanks with open top in rather small rooms and have never seen any issues from the moisture. The more water in the air the less is pulled from the tanks so I would think it would limit itself and not evaporate enough to actually cause things like mold.

The moisture that is created by taking showers daily, doing laundry, running dishwasher's, cooking, etc., all will create more moisture in the home than just a single aquarium. So like you said your parents really need a better excuse than this.

75g, 30g breeder, 29g, 10g.
Not just random tanks listed. They are all located in my bedroom. No odd smells or funky colors growing anywhere.
