I have set it up will the following filters & media: approx. 3.5cm EHFIMECH, 1 course filter pad blue, approx. 10cm EHFISUBSTRAT, 1 fine filter pad white, 1 carbon filter pad white. I just wanted to know how long should I keep the carbon filer in there or should I leave it in the filter all the time? & when do you think I will need to clean the filters(after how long, months etc)& how to clean the media, should I rinse the media with running water(under the tap) or should I replace the media everytime? Just wanted to know the answers to these questions as there were no instructions that came with the media or filter. Jay |

After a while carbon does become toxic. The only time you really need carbon is on the initial setup and if you are removing medication from the water. All the other media can be rinsed once a month or so. The pads can be rinsed and squeezed under the tap. The white (fine) pad should probably be replaced every few months the coarser pads (blue) could be kept longer. The other media that looks like rocks that should be rinsed only in tank water, otherwise you will destroy the good bacteria that has developed. I have an Eheim Ecco and that's why I've been doing for the last 2 years. My Scapes |

Just toss it out and if for some reason you have to use carbon again buy another one and follow the instructions fully and only use it for a short time.
