Should the length of the lightstrip be equal to the length of the tank? I have a 36" inch tank with 30" lightstrip. I was wondering, since its planted, would it have been better to have a 36" lightstrip.

Also, say I wanted to get a 48" tank with compact flourescent lighting, would a 48" lightstrip be better?

I have a 5ft tank and a 4ft twin lighting unit my tank is not heaverly planted at both ends so not a ptoblem. Ther are large caves at each end.

Light does not go 90degrees straight down it soes fan out a bit.
I hope this is a help.

Keith

Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.

I agree with keithgh. The lights don't have to run the full lenght of the tank and probably shouldn't. A bit of room is usually needed on the ends for wiring and ventilation. I've got 2 36 inch lights in a 7.5 foot tank. They provide very even lighting despite a gap in the middle and on either end.

if you want to try and cover the lenght of the tank you could do as i did in my tank which was to stagger 4 4ft tubes to cover the whole tank reasonably well.

Gibson SG you know you want one!!
