sodaaddict84 Enthusiast Posts: 255 Kudos: 108 Votes: 52 Registered: 02-Nov-2006 | today i was looking for diy projects. i came across someone who had made a moonlight effect in there tank using cold cathode lights. like the ones in computer cases to light up the side. when i saw it i instatly looked up how much they cost on ebay. i found one for $2 plus $5 for shipping. naturally i bought one and im gonna try to follow close to the directions i saw. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_moonlight.php *click *flash *click "whered he go???" |

Odyssea makes a good with twelve lights, If I remember right it cost 15.00 including shipping. It's water tight and safe for the fish and humans to put there arms in the tank. Also I have 2 hydros in one tank and they work will. I have 1 hydro in a tank that has 2 lunar lights built into the light fixture. this one gives the best effect I think. Very strong in the center of the tank and then the 2 built in give a nice fill light on the sides. It scares all of us wife, kids and myself because the fish swim in front of the light and their shadows go fling across the floor. Wife said she thinks it a mouse and jumps every time. So not only does it give me a nice lighting effect, I get a humorous effect from the wife and kids. Djrichie "Don't Panic" Djrichie "So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish" Douglas Adams |

They are very affordable. Running the on most of my tanks and have not experienced any problems with them. Djrichie "Don't Panic" Djrichie "So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish" Douglas Adams |

monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | Frank, I believe the ones I have are 115. They are one solid unit. The plug comes right out from the unit and into the wall, or in my case, timer switch. Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

pizpot Big Fish Posts: 382 Kudos: 82 Votes: 1 Registered: 01-Oct-2002 | If you ever see this and are tempted, then I might let you know that it won't work long, as they are not waterproof very long and are so dim it is not funny. The green spotlights were the brightest, but of course blue looks way better as did red. But red and blue were dim dim dim. |

djrichie Big Fish Rough but Honest [img]htt Posts: 366 Kudos: 309 Votes: 45 Registered: 29-Jan-2007 | Sorry to see you wasted money on those style of luna lights. I looked into them awhile back and found out they suck. They only work for a couple of weeks from what I was told However Hydor puts out a single unit that works great and I've had one running now for at least 5 months. No problems as of yet. http://www.petsolutions.com/Aqua+Color-I-41400399-I-C-33-C-.aspx I have this in one as well in two tanks, these are nice because can link them together but they cannot get wet :http://www.petsolutions.com/Lunar+Lights-I-42901650-I-C-33-C-.aspx I also have a odyssea luna ligthbar in another tank I can't decide which one I like so, I guess my opinion would be any of these three will make you happy I'm not recommending any place to purchase, just using the info to inform Djrichie "Don't Panic" Djrichie "So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish" Douglas Adams |

pizpot Big Fish Posts: 382 Kudos: 82 Votes: 1 Registered: 01-Oct-2002 | It would be neat if you could use blue glass and your regular daytime light. Or red for spying on nocturnal. But I bet that would be a pain to keep doing. |

monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | pizpot, i actually have those in my 55g tank. i have recommended them to others and we all have had success with them. i've found that there are a few different kind out on the market and some dont last as long, but i bought my original set about 2 years ago and they still work great. but honestly, no where near as bright as the longer tube types Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |
