canister? or OTB?? but ebay is where i love to get my filters. actually, all of mine but 1 came from ebay. but since we're in different locations, it may or may not have an affect on what you need.

here is an exact one that i got off ebay last spring. it was brand new and running great since then.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Jebo-Odyssea-CFS4-Canister-Filter-Model-Powerful-New_W0QQitemZ300102371119QQihZ020QQcategoryZ46310QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem seen this in stores here for $140 us and up. i got mine for only $50 us (includded shiping) (on my 150g tank)

http://cgi.ebay.com/AQUARIUM-Canister-FILTER-uses-Eheim-2026-filter-pads_W0QQitemZ270112461552QQihZ017QQcategoryZ46310QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem this guy i got for only $45 (w shippin)(on my 150g tank)

and i also got a Penn-Plax Cascade 500 (on a 20g) and 700 (on my 55g) off ebay also for $40 each. and everyone of them run excellent. and for me only difference between buying them in stores compaired to ebay, is no warrantee, but then they've lasted longer than warrantees are good for anyway.

I use the cascade canister filters and I'm very happy with the performance of them. You can get the cheaper online than on ebay, at the places:

Other have posted about the jebco, and say they like them except the hoses and and hose connections are made with brittle plastic.

Here's a comparison chart of the major manufacturers

I'm getting a FilStar canister filter this weekend - one of my coworkers swears by his, plus, PetSmart has a special on them right now. $15 or $30 off depending on which model you get.

http://www.petsmart.com/landing/Rena/?cm_ven=Google&cm_cat=adwords&cm_pla=rena&cm_ite=filstar

The xP2 is good for up to 75 gallons, but with the coupon the xP3 is only $10 more, so that's what I'm getting. And if I'm not mistaken, petsmart stores will price match their online prices, so this should be good instore as well (store price of the filter is higher than the $104.99 listed online), so you don't have to wait on shipping.

PLUS if you don't have a petsmart nearby or they won't pricematch, petsmart.com is doing free shipping on orders over $50. So um. Yeah. I sound like a commercial, but really, it's JUST A GOOD DEAL!

Listen! Do you smell that?

I am with Theresa. i own an AquaClear for my 55 gal and i love it. easy filter change, and good growth, and they make these little bio balls, great for colony growth. and cheap too

Sorry to ask a question in your thread, desiredusername. But to those who answered AquaClear - is this a cannister or a hob and what size would you recommend for a 55 o5 65G African cichlid tank. Thanks

Cheers

I would reccomend the Aqua Clear 110 for the 55 gal. Or maybe two of them. They are HOB's and are relativly inexpensive.

Thanks for your input as always, Shane
