Hey Guys,

I must be the first one to complain about a noise Eheim
Anyway, I bought this Eheim 2215 2nd hand, it worked for me like a beauty for the first couple of month, really quiet.
But after I cleaned out the filter one day, it began to become very noisy.
It's currently in my 4ft cabinet, and can even hear it from 2 meters away.
I tried different ways to prime it, with a pump, siphon, etc.
I also cleaned the impellor.

It's sitting on 2 yellow pages inside my 4ft cabinet cause the hose doesn't reach that far.

What could be wrong with it?
Media is (1st to last) EheimMech, Blue Foam, Eheim Substrate, Blue Foam, Seachem Matrix, White Foam.

Is there anything I can do to help it?

Thanks in advance,

Jim
Regards

Hi,
Since it worked fine for the first month until you
cleaned it, I suspect that you may not have something
seated correctly, may have air in the lines (around the
impeller), or gotten a bit of charcoal loose in the pump
chamber.

I would suggest breaking it down to "parade rest," cleaning
it, and reassembling it. Filling the thing with water as
you reassemble it will help remove pockets of air that
could later get into the pump chamber and cause the
impeller to rattle as it spins (the usual cause of noise).

Then, if the complete tear down/reassembly does not work
I'd try contacting the manufacturer. They have a technical
department that can help you with your problem.

One additional note, the noise is nearly always the
impeller rattling around in the chamber and if allowed
to do that for any length of time, it will destroy the
seats (bushings into which the impeller sits) and they
will have to be replaced to prevent new impellers from
doing the same thing.

I agree w/ Frank about the impeller. They usually wear out within a couple of years use. When cleaning the impeller and it's housing doen't work., replacing it most likely will.

JQW, I think it could be air also. When I have cleaned mine i've found the easiest way to get it starting quickly is to leave the small cap off the output (the spray bar) and then turn it on. This allows all the air bubbles to escape from the end of that tube rather than build up. Its worked every time for me.

Let us know how you got on with it.

Those who say they cant, Never will !!!
