Powerheads - which ones? | |
PerogyBoy Small Fry Posts: 2 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Oct-2005 | Hello: I am new to this forum, but not to aquariums. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada I have a 100 gallon freshwater tank with 4 large tinfoils, silver dollars, anostomus, pleco, and small "shark". I currently have a large Eheim cannister filter running, as well as a Aquaclear (Noisy!!) and a Maxijet powerhead filter submersed. Also, and airpump and airstone. my tank is in my TV room, and I'm getting tired of its noise! it's bad enough the air pump buzzes away and makes so much noise, but I am getting tired of my Aquaclear making noise. I know, perhaps changing the impeller shaft (it is wearing) would quieten it a bit, but I am thinking of getting another powerhead to submerse to replace it. I hear powerheads can have an air intake to aerate also. can anyone recommend some powerheads to buy. All opinions appreciated. Darryl |

It won't help if the impeller is really far gone. I've only ever had one filter impeller destroyed and that was because of sand. Since then I've taken steps to prevent further annoyances. ^_^[hr width='40%'] "in any case, chocolate is hardly a rare comodity." said Chaos. "There are planets covered in the stuff" REALLY? Everyone I've seen has port for a piece of airline (if the pump is mounted below the surface) or a place where it will mix air with the returning water and aerate the tank that way. I don't mind the sound of bubbles, it's just the noisy devices the create them (air pumps) that's driving me batty. |

I have three tanks with powerheads. Each tank uses one for a different reason. I like AC's they're well made, and have yet to fail me ...I had a maxijet die within a few months of use :%). ^_^[hr width='40%'] When angels cry blood, on flowers of evil in bloom and a plea for mercy, where Love is a gun separating me from you" ~ |
