I came across this prefilter sponge it looks very course and with weekly cleaning I dont think it would effect with my Eheim Pro11 Canister filter, it would also stop the BN fry getting into the canister.

If you are an Aussie where can I get one please.

I am not an Aussie but that sponge looks just like the sponge that I have in my Aquaclear HOB filters. They sell replacement ones for just a couple of dollars. That might be something you can try. if you do you will have to cut an opening in it for the intake.

Looks even less dense than the average sponge filter. I agree with FKJ, looks like the sponge that comes inside the Aquaclear. I don't know enough about canisters to say anything in that respect, though.

You don't need to buy one make one..... Fine the black filter material generally used in wet/dry systems, most LFS will carry it. take it and soak it with water and freeze it, than take a drill but that is close to size of your filter screen and drill it out while it froozen, this will give a nice neat hole. Than let it thaw out and slide it over the filter screen. I used this myself and it works great and cost almost nothing to make.

Hi Keith

Any piece of filter sponge will do. (I run 2 sponges, when I replace one I save it, makes about 3 pre-filters for my 40 and 2 for the 10g)

Cut to desired size, take a knife and cut an X in the middle, slide over your intake I hunted down the black sponge but it was only in a huge block and $22. I'll pass. Black would be nicer from a scaping point of view. Once the white gets dirty past a point it'll never be 'white' again unless bleached. Hope that helps
