I haven't put this part together yet, but I bought this hose fitting set for around $3.00 at BIG W. No need to say more really, as we've all seen these standard fittings on our garden hose, but I'll say it anyway. This should give me two ways of shutting off the water from the rumpus room without having to run back & forth to the kitchen sink. One by adjusting the nozzle down to it's lowest (it can be a strong jet or light drizzle - hopefully down to nil). But, not trusting that completely, 'cause I'll be standing on carpet, the kit also contains a "Flow Through Water Stop" which it says "has the advantage that water will not flow until connection is made and will stop when disconnected". There's a part of it that you slide up or down, depending on whether you want water to flow, or not.

I'll let you know how this all goes when I set it up & use it.

Crusha, I haven't yet tried your idea yet. I'll see how your idea works for me next water change. Also how easy it is to disconnect the hose nozzle bit & put the gravel vac in it's place. If I find all that a bother or, if I still can't get enough suction, I'll just continue to to syphon into my large wheel-able container - as I find that really easy to do anyway.

I let you know which way I go on that part of it too.

Hey Robyn, that looks sooooo easy, I must get one of those fittings .

All I did was pull the original hose off the gravel vac and attach the hose straight onto the end of it. I have a large green gravel vac, I did have to buy a bigger one to fit the end of the garden hose as the one I had was too small, but after having done that I went to the local Salvage shop and found a fitting that you can use to as a spacer from smaller hoses to larger hoses . Anyway if you can find one of those you will save yourself some money!!!!

I'm off to buy a new cabinet for my 4ft now, just noticed the one its on is BOWING . NOT looking forward to emptying and refilling the whole tank, not happy at all.

Wish me luck!!!

Cheers, Crusha

Those who say they cant, Never will !!!

Hi Crusha

Not totally sure about the "Thread a tap" thing yet. I used it to fill a new tank today (see below). When you turn the water off from the hose nozzle, the water pressure seemed too great & the actual threaded part popped out off the part that goes over the tap. Lucky I was standing at the tap & could turn the tap off straight away. I think 2 things would fix this - tap on with less pressure & I will buy some strong glue & carefully glue that part in place, so it can't pop out.

Other than that - you still might be better off taking the same track as Callatya. Tradelink are bound to have a product identical to "thread a tap" and much sturdier.

Sorry to hear you'll need to empty & refill. I did that myself today. So, yes - I wish you luck. Replaced my 75 Litre with a 90 Litre, cause I was having issues with that tank. Even though my water quality was fine (confirmed by testing at the shop today - which agreed with my own tests) the tank has had in the past:- white spot and then fungus - all brought in with new stock. It was my QT tank, so it was always new fish in there, waiting out their QT before going into the community. The last straw was this morning - a new fish (bought yesterday) was dead in the tank. It may have been just the stress of her introduction to the tank but, I don't trust that tank any more. I have a pair of expensive (for me anyway) imported fish on order & this was to have become their home.

So I'm not happy either. Only just finished setting the new tank up. I hope it cycles quickly before I have to bring new new fish home.

Hope you like your new cabinet & that the change over doesn't take too long.

Cheers
