I've been thinking about ways to speed up my water changes and I was wondering if I could hook up a small power head like 125gph. Then just run it to my drain. Would there be any fore seeable problems.

Hi,
Many folks with "big water tanks" (tanks 100+G) use pumps
for water changes. Some have 55G plastic drums that has
aged water standing available, and after they "power drain"
their tanks they simply turn the system around and pump
the waiting water in to replace what they removed.

My only suggestion would to use an intake screen of say
sponge or something that would keep any critters out of
the pump and keep any floating debris out of the pump.

Most folks, instead of using a power head, use a regular
water pump that sits on the floor.

Frank

Heck, go get a PythonIt sure speeds things up, ends the sore muscles, and makes a little less messI absolutely love mineNow if you have a big tank (100+ gallons) it is still going to take some time, but it won't be as bad normal...Go Get One!!! You Won't Be Disappointed

And speaking of Python's here is a link for a DIY project that is pretty simple and will save you a whole lot of money as compared to the cost of a Python.

What did you do to make it quicker as I'm sure others would be interested in any improvements you made.

Instead of using the faucet adapter that came with the water bed kit I went out and bought a metal one since the plastic one was stripped to hell. I don't know if it was that big of a deal but now it goes a little faster for me.

The plastic adapters that come with the Python also strip very easily.

I thought I had bought a piece of junk until I saw they offered a brass one. And even then, the $6 it cost seemed like a rip off.
