The diaphragm/s are blown and I have no idea how to get it open to find out how many and what type they are. I have the screws out of the bottom, the nut from the dial off the top, and I have two of the 4 outlets loosened - it will not crack open.

What am I doing wrong?

There could be a rubber seal and it is just stuck.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Where abouts? On the inside?

It has a rubber seal, but I have eased it loose with a blade and it doesn't seem to be stuck in any real way, more just squished in between the two halves.

Looking around the seal between the top and lower half.. nothing to push in that would release the two halves?

Got it I got the user manual from the manufacturer, and then realised that it was pretty useless as there were no instructions for replacing diaphragms etc (I guess gearing towards company servicing?). There are two little pins, but thankfully no clips

The problem was that the dust filter underneath was clogged to the point that it was causing a vacuum! Again, no diagrams of how to change or clean that, though thankfully removing the housing was straightforward (with a very long lever and the attitude of "break it if you have to, it is no good to me if it doesn't work anyhow".

Turned out that one of the wires on the air volume control dial had come loose (not pushed through fully when soldered) so it was running on half-power, which I reckon is pretty impressive. It must have knocked loose in one of the house moves.

So yahoo! We have air!

Yippieeee

and the correct motto is - "If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway"

or - "it ain't custom if you don't cut"

I live by both of these mottos
