I've got a Rema XP3 set up on one side of my tank (135gal) with the spray bar attached to the back and it's pointed forward and just a little upward for surface movement. This creates a lot of current in the area. Would it be better to attach it to the side and have it spray lengthwise across the tank? I'm thinking this would reduce the current since it's not hitting the glass and getting redirected in 3 different directions.

James,

I have my spraybar in the back, vertically and let it spray along the back of the tank (not forward).

There are many options on how you can place the spraybar, why don't you play with it until you find the best solution for yourself, your fish, and you plants (if you have any).

I'll do that while I have the hood off installing the lights. That way if I need to alter the hood to accomodate the new placement of the hose it'll be much easier!

My Eheim spray bar is fixed at the opposite end to the intake. The spray bar is made ofv three sections and I can direct the flow very easly.

Sorry I forgot to mention This photo was taken during a water change. The tank level is always just above the top of the outlet.

Well, I ended up changing out the filter. I've got a magnum 350 pro on one end and a Rena XP3 on the other...I took the XP3 off and replaced it with an XP2 that I won in a raffle drawing. Much better! There was an extra attachment so that I could position it along the side rather than the back and not alter the hood. The angels seem to love it!!! They get in the current and kind of hover there. Before they would stay completely away from the current.
