Im going to setup a 50g trashcan to age water and store it. I want to mix the water up and get an even temp distribution. What would be better an air pump or a power head.

I would venture a small powerhead would work best, as the depth of the trashcan will require a powerful air pump, though I suppose if you hung the airstone only part way down, it would still create some current and stir the water.

An Power head would be better, as you need a very good pump to get the airstone on full force.

Is the tank you are going to use like these:- http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/detail?.dir=950b&.dnm=4f82.jpg&.src=ph

I don't heat them & don't use anything to make some water movement. I just let the water sit there for 2/3 weeks & use it.

I concurr, a powerhead would do better for that volume of water in the depth of the can. If you are going to let it age, you will not have to use water conditioner unless you have choloramine in the water. Then a small dose to break that compound up is all you'd need.

If you are just storing water I use two 25lt water containers. I never airate them or use heaters.
I store the water for one week. I keep the screw tops off.

To heat the water I put the containers into the laundry trough with hot tap water.

I just use my finger to get the temp but most times it is above the tank temp.

I have been doing this for 15+ years and never a problem.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://
