I have no idea if these exist but I though it would be a great addition to a tank. I'm looking for a lighting setup that is on a timer and when the lights come on they start really dimand gradually build to their full strength and then vice versa in the evening. Do they exist and where would I find one? If not does anyone have any ideas on how to make something like that?
Thanks

Hi,
Yes, these systems exist. Although they are primarily
marketed for marine systems, they will work on freshwater
systems as well.
You will need a timer(s) and controller(s). Timers give you
the ON/OFF feature and determine how long each set of
lights will be on. Controllers determine the brightness
of the lights while on. Properly set up, you can
simulate the brightness of the daylight period, dim the
light toward dusk, and even bring up a period of moonlight.

Just remember that plants and fish require a period of
about 6-8 hours of NO light.

Here is a place to start:

Thanks Frank,
For the moment I think at the price it was on the website I might not get it for my 2foot tank. I'll wait till I get my 6 or possibly 8 foot tank.

Thanks again

I have this type of set up with my lights that works really well, plus its not too expensive. Here is the lighting schedule with the wattage.

Morning 7 to 10 Moon Lights, (Purchased from That pet Place)
Wattage about 2 watts total for around 30 dollars.

Morning 9:45 to 10:00 at night One 40 watt bulb Standard Light strip.

Morning 11:00 to 8:30 in the evening 130 watts

Night moonlights 9:30 to 1:00 AM All are on timers

If you go with the Lunar links Which are great btw (I have even accidentally dropped them in the tank and they still work....) The package recommends one every 2 feet. but I find that one every foot is best.

My timers are the ones from the Drug store or a hardware store type. Just make sure you get kind where you can adjust the time on and off Some of them have just a hour period that you choose.

All total I spent about a hundred on everything Lights and timers included.
