Surface agitation (sp?) | |
stephane Fingerling Posts: 37 Kudos: 32 Votes: 3 Registered: 05-Jan-2005 | Hello, I was wondering if an aquaclear 200 puts enough oxygen in the aquarium, or do I need an airpump? If I do need an airpump, which is the most quite? Thanking you in advance Stephane |

However, if it is a 55G tank or smaller, and if it is stocked "normally" the oxygen content of your water with that filter, should be just fine. Air stones are not always a necessity and their use is up to you. Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

Something that I like better than air pumps is using a submersible power head instead. The AC models come with a lenght of airline tube that allows you to add air into the pump or just run it for water movement. ^_^ [hr width='40%'] It only hurts when I breathe" |

FRANK Moderator Posts: 5108 Kudos: 5263 Votes: 1690 Registered: 28-Dec-2002 | Hi, Personally, I'd remove the pump and stone. I really doubt if they are necessary. I did away with airstones and pumps nearly 20 years ago when power heads became inexpensive. If you really need oxygenation, mount a power head inside the tank with a sponge filter on the intake and have the output across the tank. I was a little hesitant to do it @first until I understood that they really don't increase agitation all that much. So long as the surface is broken by the filter you're more than fine. Powerheads are so much quieter than air pumps because they remain underwater, the only sound comes from the actual breaking of bubbles on the surface if you use the airline. Even that was too much for me so I run mine without the bubbles :%). ^_^ [hr width='40%'] It only hurts when I breathe" |
