I want to build a few custom stands, and I would like to know what the best material is for this. I also would like to know what the best way to go about this. I have never really done this before, however I know a few people who are REALLY good with carpentry and such, and I am sure they would be glad to help me if needed. However, I don't know whether there is one type of wood that is better than other types of wood for starters. If you guys could jsut give me a few pointers on the over all "building experience" I would really appreciate it!

check out [link=This page]http://www.garf.org/tank/buildstand.asp" style="COLOR: #FFFF00[/link] for a nice write up.

Marine grade plywood or better (something sealed at least) would be best.

I have designed a very basic stand that can be used for many different size tanks.

I will PM you with my E/m and you can contact me. I think I should be able to help you. My experience 26 years teaching Cabinet making, plus 10 years in the trade.

Here is my latest effort

I built my own. Most of the stands in the 100 - 150 dollar price range were kind of cheesy IMO. The frame is built with 2 x 4's and I cased it with furniture grade plywood. I cheated on the corners and instead of miter cuts I attached wood corner moldings used for installing wood paneling.
