Hello I have a 10 gallon tank that needs a light ....now heres the thing I have a 17" light(with case) 13" inch bulb
that i would like to put on my tank. My tank now has a screen top with places cut out for a pump and heater and a small hole for food, but to clean you need to take this off..which sucks
If someone knows an idea where I can put in the light and maybe make a top that has more use to it that would be great!!!
If its pleasing to the eye as well it would be a bonus!!
Someone please help =p

BTW this is going to be freshwater tank and step by step would be great THANKS!!!

Hi,
I'm not sure what it is that you are asking. You should
be able to go to any LFS or even the large stores like
Wallmart, etc, and pick up a complete hood for that 10G
tank. It will completely cover the top with cutouts for
the heater and filter, and look really nice on the tank.
These hoods come with sockets for either a incandescent
bulb (which you DO NOT want) or a small flourscent (which
is best).

If you really want to use what you have, you can go to the
same stores and purchase covers for the tank that are
either all glass or half plastic and half glass (the
best option). They also have places (spaces) for heaters
and filters. Then you can set your light on top of the
cover.

what i did with my mbuna tank is buy 1"x2" pine 4' lengths
i cut them to shape to make a U around the front n sides of the tank so it sits flush with the tank edge
i have those sitting on there high side n took 2 peices n cut them to the width of my tank as center sapports
i cut out a 2" gap in the front main piece of the U in 2 places for these cut pieces to fit into so that they laid down on the 2" side 1" high i then glued them into place so that the lid looks like
[_|___|_] the filter n heater go on the upper side of that pic where there are no lines
i cut a piece of glass to fit inbetween the front wood n the filter/heater onto which i placed the lite i built a box for that to to enclose it for better looks
my tank had a 1" black plastic top cap n i added 2" of pine onto that so i made 3 3/8" routered trim n glued flush with the top of the wood covering the pine n black plastic given the hood a nice trimmed look n since it over laps it holds the lid on to the tank nicely leavein a hole on each side of the tank for feeding n cleaning
hope u understood that
