So I get home from work tonight and realize my filter on my Warmouth tank is not running. I fill the thing back up with water and it starts working just fine. After looking into the tank for a couple minutes I realize that I just about had a flood in my apartment.

The center brace broke and the front peice of glass was bowed out a good 3-4 inches fromt he brace. Lets jus say I about fliped out! I drained the tank down to having left 1/3 of the water. This gave the glass a break and it came back to normal.

Right now I have the front and back pieces duck taped together just to make me feel better about it.

Tomorrow I plan on re-silconing the brace in place. I am also thinking of building a wood trim around the tank out of 1x1's

Any help you guys could throw at me would be great!

P.S. The tank is not a normal tank. I found it along side the road and tested it for a month outside before actually setting it up. Here are some pictures!

Good save!! I wouldn't want to try and mop up 55 gallons of water off the floor either.

A frame would be a big benefit of that tank. Looks like the brace isn't all that effective given the way it's atatched to the main panes of glass.

Good luck!

I hate to tell you that brace is totally useless.

The tank should have a two strips about 2ins wide runnning the full length or the tank.

This means that the glass is glued on its edge and this will prevent any bowing. Then you can glue the wide center brace to these pieces thus giving you a very wide grip rather than the edge only.

If does not make any sence PM me your E/m and I will do a drawing for you.

Hmm...I'd toss the tank and start over with it

I've been told that once glass is bent, it weakens and will never be that strong again.

My 29 bowed out about 3/4" (no brace on it... there never was, and one isn't needed on a tank that small), an' I was told to toss it before it bursts. I got me a new 29 an' I'm all good

3" is a bit of a flex for a 4' long piece of glass. Was it bowing on both sides? or just the front?

I'd toss the tank... you found it on the side of the road anyway... no idea where it's been or what's been in it...

Have fun
