Tricks to start siphon with a small-bore tubing | |
RickyM Enthusiast Posts: 175 Kudos: 101 Votes: 62 Registered: 12-Oct-2006 | Hi there, I finally decided to hatch a batch of angelfish eggs in a separated tank. There are about 200 to 300 wigglers in the 3rd day of hatching. But I also started to spot a few dead frys. I wanted to do a bit of clean up by siphoning with a small bore tubing (the airpump tubing). But to fill a fine tubing like this with water is not easy. Is there any tricks to get this started.. other than sucking on it |

First, I don't think there's a gravelvac lift that could be fitted with an airpump tubing. Also, I didn't mention that the frys were already dropped from their spawning slate. Most of them are now in the bottom of the tank, or on the sponge filter. I don't want to shake the gravelvac lift to create an angelfish fry soup Any other ideas? |

You may have to rotate it a bit to get it full of water. After doing this, hold your finger over one end of the tubing and then take it from the tank and once over the bucket or whatever you're using to catch the water then release your finger and the flow should start. Or again, just suck on the tube. I don't know how many mouthfuls of water I've gotten over the years Jim |

Here's what I'll do. Suck on the tube from a bucket of clean water until it is filled. Hold the lower end of the tubing with my finger. Dip the upper end to the hatching tank and start siphoning. Unless someone has a better trick |

If you do light and soft shakes, nothing will get disturbed. Just do them slowly. ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

I guess I could sell them to the LFS and give away some to other hobbist I know, if I'm lucky enough to have a considerable number of them raised.. It is Day 4, just checked the tank.. and they all seem to be doing fine. Keeping my fingers crossed.. |
