I've had a 5-gallon acrylic bowfront tank for about 2 years now, and within the past few weeks it's started to warp. I have to push against the side and the front in order to get the lid to fall where it's supposed to. Is this a normal thing? If not, do I have to worry about the tank eventually cracking?

Thank you!

If the tank is bowing/warping, then yes I would have to say that the tank giving way is a possibility in the future..the seams will most likely go due to the pressure on them

There's no seams, it's a solid piece of molded plastic. (One of those aquarium kits they sell in petstores. The only thing I ended up keeping from the kit was the tank - which I love. It's green. )

The answer is still, "Yes, it will break." Although all acrylic tanks will exhibit some bowing, you should not notice the bowing on a 5 gallon tank. It is a good indicator that the acrylic has weakened.

What normally happens is the the plastic shatters at the point of pressure. In other words, you will not have the warning of a leak. It will just explode. Look for a new tank.

Oh no. My 5g Minibow is doing the same thing. It is bowfront, but I have noticed that the hood isn't even with the sides (if that makes sense).
Guess I better figure out what I'm gonna do about that problem.

I had a really bad feeling someone was going to say the "E" word. Maybe I should move the computer away from the desk it's sitting on....
