When I have room I was thinking about using a drum to age water change water, deleting the need for dechlorinators. I figured if I was going to do that, might as well pre-heat the water to the temperature of my tanks' water as well. It would probably refilled with either a python or ordinary garden hose or something. I don't own my own house so I can't be cutting into water lines to do the whole self-fill thing to keep it topped off.

Anyways, here's a horrible sketch of what I was thinking of. I'm obviously not an artist, but it's the general idea that counts, eh? Any point-outs of obvious flaws in design would be appreciated.

Hi Jake,
Well, there are a series of things to think about
with this proposal.
First, the chlorine. Many cities and muni's are
now useing chloramine as well as chlorine to kill
off bacteria, and Chloramine will not "degass" as
chlorine does. You must actually treat the water
to remove chloramine.
Second, heating, and aerating the water will be
expensive, add to that the expense of the pump,
and the GFI for the system, and it becomes even
more expensive.

If you have a "fish room" with several tanks, then
starting up something like this, and readying it
a week ahead of time, might make some sense but
with only a couple (few) tanks, a python or something
similiar will be faster, take up less room, and
be far less expensive.
