Here's the situation. I currently have a 90 gallon tank with 2 6 inch pictus cats and a 14 inch Midas cichlid. The tank is being filtered with a Emperor 280 and a Fluval 304. I want to keep the Emperor and get rid of the Fluval. I want to replace the Fluval with an Eheim, an upgrade in gallons per hour. The only problem is that I don't know which Eheim to buy. I'm debating between the Pro 2 2026 and the Wet Dry 2227. Which do you feel better suits my application?

the wet dry is a waste of money. get the 2026 model, looks liek it woudl be a good fit for your tank size. course with your fish stocking this is over kill with a HOB.

get the 2026 its worth it in the long run.

i agree with sin the ehiem wet dry will be a waste of money. the pro 2 2026 will give u room to custamise in the future if u want to add special filter substrate.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking the same thing on the wet dry being a waste but I wanted to confirm it before I made my decision. My lfs has both of these filters on sale right now so I wanted to get one before they went off clearence. Looks like the 2026 will be in my home by the end of today. BTW sin, by HOB do you mean Hang on Back? Sorry, just not sure what that meant.

P.S. my fluval 304 is going up for sale. I will sell it for cheap. More info in the classifieds of FP. PM me if you're interested or reply to my classified post.

HOB = Hang on the back ...yes. sorry about that force of habit. i dont usually use abreviations in forums because not everyone knows them and it takes so long to get an explination.

anyway thought you might be interested in this seeing you in the USA.

Thanks for he link Sin. If I'm going to order stuff online I always order from Al's. I ended up getting it from my lfs though because it was 160 but I didn't have to pay shipping so it was a tad cheaper. Anyway, this is my first Eheim and I haven't installed it yet, it's still in the box and will be hooked up tomorrow. From what I understand Eheims are like the Cadillac of aquarium filters. How much of an upgrade is this over my Fluval?

The Eheim 2026 is the way to go. I am not sorry I bought mine, an excellent pump. All the Pro 11 are fully made in Germany.

It is the old addage $$$ = value.

How much of an upgrade is this over my Fluval?
With out hurting any Fluval fans. From what I saw and have heard here they are a poor cousin. Sorry Fluval users.

ive never owned a fluval so i cant sit here and say they are junk or cheap. but i do own a eheim 2222 for my 75g tank and it pulls out twice as much junk out as my 2 pengiun 330s put together. it has half the GPH as ONE pengiun 330 so how it does this i have no idea lol. it is deffinetly superior filtration.

Hi All,
Had a guy come in a few months back with some Eheim parts and wanted to know if he could get a new impellor and shaft, yes had a similar parts hanging on shelf, new impellor and shaft $23.95. He came back a few days later with the large o-ring from the canister, yes had one about the same size $9.95. After quizzing the customer a little, which model etc, he went out to his car and came back with the original box with the receipt in the bottom of box. Turns out his father purchased the 2001, on the 30/12/1985 on sale for $139.95 and when his father passed away some 10 years ago, he had inherited the tank and set -up and had been running the filter continuously since its purchase. So as you can see if used correctly and looked after properly, you can get good use from a good quality filter. Initail costs and replacement parts versus other brands is worth looking at. This guys running costs were quite cost effective over the life of the filter, which is still running strong. He asked about a newer model in case this one ever stops and the price these days $395.95. He has not been back as yet, so all is still well with his Eheim. So look after your Eheim, keep it clean, check and clean the impellor, ( a little Lanotec ) and it will last quite a long time. Good luck. Muss.

I'm not surprised the Eheim was still going after nearly 20 years. I expect mine will be too

But he kept the box and receipt for 20 years? That's gotta be a record!
