I used to have a bio-wheel but it was so loud and never quite worked. Now i use aquaclears but i need a new filter for one of my tanks. Should i go with the aquaclear]http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441776763&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302030059&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1118937241785[/link] or the newly desinged [link=bio-wheel? Does anyone have any experience with this new design?

P.S. I found out that if you find a lower price on the PETsMART website you can print out the page and the store will honor the lower price, and the online price is usually a lot lower.

What size tank and what are the plans for it
I wouldnt suggest a biowheel if you're going planted.

I run AC's on all my tanks like them as they're quiet. If you keep the water level high there's almost no sound and little surface agitation which is good in CO2 injected tanks. I also like them because they're cheaper . Compair ptsmrts online price with big als prices....I've found [link=big als]http://www.bigalsonline.com" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] to have some of the lowest prices and reliable shipping.

I'd suggest a biowheel filter for any purpose, unless the tank is really big. I have one running on my planted tank right now. It gets plenty of co2, and I like the fact that I can take out the filter cartridge without worrying about any adverse effects.

And they aren't all that loud....I think air pumps are WAY louder. Even AC's are loud if you let the water level drop. It's just a gentle little splish splash now and again.

Hook,

I vote with Babel for the AquaClear. It is easy to maintain with no need to buy expensive cartridges. I use two sponges in my ACs and rinse one sponge each week. It doesn't get easier or less expensive than that.

How are you going to plant it with a pair of kribs in it? They'll uproot everything and kill it all...unless yer planting it with floating plants like duckweed and hornwort and stuff

I have java ferns, java moss, aponogen, and a pair of kribs with a biowheel filter with no problems. While most cichlids will uproot and tear up plants, I have never had any problem with kribs or blue rams. Good luck. Whichever filter you choose will work great as long as you use it as intended. I am hooked on the bio wheel for a hob, though.

i dont see any issues with kribs and plants. they like most cichlids will dig but this shouldnt be a problem for anything thats been rooted.

Thats the 1st ive seen of the new biowheels and thanks for the link you provided. i currently run 4 biowheels and the improvments listed sounds really nice. i might have to upgrade myself heheh.

as far as cleaning biowheel filters i pull the pads, go outside tot he house, power wash them from both sides. takes me about 15 mins to wash 2 pads and the filter shell itself. the whole time just leaving the biowheel sitting on the tank waiting. its nice to be able to keep the filter clean often and not worry about bacteria die off. the cleaner the filter the longer its life and that saves money. not to mention the pads last me about a yr before i finially toss them and buy new ones. the carbon in them i cut out and bag for future use to remove meds if needed.

75g tank with 2 pengiun 330s and a 30g tank with pengiun 125 and 170. Anyway thats my experience and i vote for biowheels

go outside to the "hose" heheh typo i missed.

congrats on the new filters hope they work great for ya
no need to apologise, each person has a prefrence. truth be told i think canisters are the best filter period but the HOBs are a nice cheap alternative.

i run an aquaclear on my betta 10g tanks so i know what ya talking about nice an quiet and the lowerd current suits the betta perfectly. every filter has a perfect scenerio and i hope yours suits you and your fish well
