I hear people say their bio wheel stopped turning... aren't the things you only 1/2 understand endlessly fascinating? ('cept algebra) ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

The Sponge removes the particulate matter, and is a combination of mechanical and biological filtration, while the carbon is for mechanical and chemical filtration. Then the water flows through a spray bar whose output is directed onto the "Biowheel". Its a sort of paddle wheel and as the water coats the wheel, it rotates dumping the return water into the tank. Bacterial colonies thrive on the wheel that alternately is submerged and then exposed to oxygen (the air), and then resubmerged. This further purfies the returning water. Actually, virtually every type of aquarium filter is modeled after a municipal water treatment plant or process. Even the fluidized bed filters are commerically used in water treatment Frank ![]() -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |
