Hey ya'll
just wondering how your create currents in a tank, i know an underground filter does this well, but are there any other ways?
Thanks
Sam

Depending on the size of the tank get an internal canister filter. You can then direct the flow to any direction you require.

A submersible powerhead works really well and can be positioned wherever needed to create a current.

Like Old timer said, power heads are the best way to get a current the way you want it besides a canister filter.

I would go with the powerhead.

UGF's hardly make much current.. if any.

You should see my UGFs each has its own pump and pushes the water towards the end where the intake is for the large Eheim Canister.

It all depends on the UGF and what pump you are using

When I use UGF I also use the powerheads...I also have in all of my tanks, 10-18 inch airstones that I place in the back and sides of the tank, and I find that this too adds a good bit of current, and I find that my Corries love to play in it...just another thought...heidi

Power heads, or hang on back filter or canister filters or internal if you put the outlet at the top of the water.

Powerhead.

I use the aquaclear 802 model. It is almost to powerful for my 75g, without the quick filter attachment I have to run it on the lowest setting. Does a really, really good job. Beside the circulation it provides you can a put the option quick filter on the bottom. The quick filter for the bottom of any of the aquaclear powerheads are pretty cheap and will really polish your water really good. I though I had really nice water untill I ran one and it made a difference. It really helps out after a gravel vac and water change to filter out material in the water. I don't ever by the hagen replacement filter media, instead I just buy the bulk packs of polyester and make my own media for it. It so easy to do.

Rather than use a powerhead, wich does not have quite as much umph, I use underwater pumps meant to power waterwalls, filters, pond equipment and the such. I had one hidden under the rockwork in my 125 that created current and kept detrius from settling on the gravel. Ran continuous for 2 years before being replaced (typical life of continuously operated pumps.) BigAls stocks quite a few of them cheaply.
