Does anyone have any experience drilling glass? Is it easy/hard/imposssible to do? I want to add a sump to my tank but I don't want to break it. What do you think?

It depends on the type of glass. If it is tempered then it isn't really possible/feasible to drill the tank without it breaking or shattering.

If non-tempered glass then most any glass shop should be able to drill it for you for a charge.

To find out if tempered or not contact the manufacturer.

What exactly do you want to do cut a small hole or drill a hole? Unless you are fully experienced and it is good quality new glass dont even think about it.

I have seen experienced glaziers break new glass when cutting out a circle.

You should replace the glass you want to drill with one with more thickness. Its important to add thickness to prevent breaking the thing.

A glass with a hole WILL break from the hole itself, so I know you shouldn't be betting to have a problem later.

Why don't you buy a canister, there are good ones at cheap prices... $50 for a fluval 204? that's what you should buy...

I'd say a sump should be going only with 55g or bigger tanks but the tank should be built for this FROM THE START...

If you want your 30g for this, you should strip it, replace the lower glass with a thicker, make the holes and then re-silicone the thing...

Not the hassle you may want...

You don't need to have the glass driled to have a sump. They have overflow boxes that you hook to the sump.
