justicerulesok Enthusiast Posts: 195 Kudos: 161 Votes: 2 Registered: 27-Jun-2004 | OK can someone please help as I give up! I have an eheim 2217 & everytime I unplug it - to clean out or aquascape, move house,or just run out of electric. I cant get the damn thing going again. It has power but sometimes I can only get it to work if I hold it upsidedown & sometimes it works but with a poor flow. Eventaually after about 2 hours tinkering I can get it to work ok. I guess I'm doing the wrong combo of turning it on, opening or closing the sucking or spitting valves.... please help, their website isnt clear. Anita. |

Heres what I do to get mine going after a clean: prestep 1: Before unplugging Canister, set the shutoff valves closed. This will cause water to stay in the tubes while you are doing change. Then unplug filter. 1) Top Tank Up as Full as it will go 2) Fill Canister All the way to Lip 3) Connect Canister to Tubing. 4) Plug In Filter 5) Release Valves 6) This almost always works now. Thanks for the tips everyone, I guess it's a case of 'suck it & see' (from a local TV advert for headache pills). The moral of the story is don't buy the cheepest filter you can get away with just so yuo can set up your tank quickly.... Thanks again. Anita. |

I think that most people are having trouble with the old eheims. The new ones are great, mine took one press of the self-prime, plug in and away it went. |

I got mine brand new in box on Ebay for 140.00 including shipping, and even that isnt cheap. Fluval and Magnum Canisters are the only two cheap canister filters I know of. Eheim is also renowned for its quality. I wouldnt give up that filter, its one of the best filters on the market. Sure its tough to get going, but I wouldnt trade mine for any other filter. Nothing else can come close to its quality. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

Next time I'll stay with the same make but go for one of the heater/filters in one with a primer. I will soon however be changing the media from the foam pads to the little bits. |
