hi,

i currently have a 55 gallon with 2 filters in my tank. one is an aquaclear and the other one is a topfin (came with the tank). both of these are the ones you hang on the side of the tank. i really detest both. mostly because the aquaclear is threatening to overflow and both are very loud as the water falls into the tank.
i have been thinking of getting an eheim canister filter but i'm not sure which one and if they are any quieter. i hate how loud our tank is since it's in the living room.
anyone have any recommendations about which site would sell them for the cheapest? as i've looked and they all seem expensive.
anyone have these filters? i've only read good things about them but i'd love to hear from others who have them and which models. i'm looking for one that isn't the most expensive.
(i live in canada too, but can order into the states - but would prefer a canadian place to order)

eheims are incredibly quiet especielly in a cabinet type stand. i have a eheim 2222 ( rated for 40g ) and its the only filter out of 6 total i cant hear ever.

i do my shopping at [link=Big Al's]http://www.bigalsonline.com" style="COLOR: #00FFFF[/link] but being in canada this may be more expensive then what you could get locally.

Hi
There is a big Als Canada site to order from. You can also try www.petsandponds.com, they might be a little cheaper. The aquaclear threating to overflow? Is it level or is there to much media stuffed in it. Is it possible to fill the water level higher in the tank to quiet the filters.

I have just answered the same Question in Getting Started for you.

Just wanted to mention a couple of things, I don't have an Aquaclear filter right now, I have used them in the past with no problems though. I am using a Tetra Whisper 40 on my 29 gal. tank and it does the same thing your Aquaclear is doing. It overflows a little bit on the intake side. It's really not a concern as far as the performance of the filter goes. Maybe a solution to your noise problem would be to raise the water level in your tank to reduce the distance the water has to fall, and if it's a rattling sound from the cover, a little scotch tape on the topside down to the side it a way to stop it, or maybe putting a snow globe on it would be more to your liking? Hope this helped a little! Sorry I couldn't give you any input on Eheim filters as I have never used them. Good luck
