I woke up this morning to find my ten gallon tank only about half full. I drained it and put the fish in another tank I had. I was inspecting the leaky tank and found that it has a good sized crack all the way across the bottom. It is right in the center of the tank. What I am wondering is if it can be resealed? I had some silicone laying around so I gave it a shot, Do you guys think the tank is structurally (sp?) damaged or do you think it will be ok? I don't want the tank to be fine for a few weeks then start leaking again or something of that nature. Thanks
p.s. the tank is about 3 years old.

If it's cracked all the way across the bottom then I'd really worry about repairing it with just silicone. It will probably be better to just buy a new tank, with 10g aquariums usually costing about $10, than to risk fishie lives. If you're going to try it though, I suggest you definately test the tank out before using it for fish again.
Also, have you determined the cause of the cracking?

Yeah I already replaced it with another ten gallon that I had laying around. I have no idea why it cracked. The tank hasn't been moved in nearly a year. Nothing has been changed with the tank since then. The last time I did a water change was four days ago.

It could be just age. Was the tank placed on a 1/2ins thickness of styrene.

My 11G glass is on 1/2ins styrene and the base of the stand unit is also on styrene. This is to stop any viabration & movement of my desk.

A new tank would work out cheaper than reparing the old tank.

Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.

It's better to replace the entire tank. I think it will be cheaper & maybe building it a bit bigger aswell.
