High levels of acidic pollutants (ammonia is one), excess CO2, low buffering capacity, "Blackwater Extract" products, and other factors can all cause or contribute to a drop in pH. High levels of algae may help during the daytime because of their production of oxygen, but at night algae consumes oxygen, and will drop the pH again. |

Be sure there are no additives in it, will raise your KH without affecting the GH of the tank. Generally speaking a KH of three (3) is a good starting point to aim for.
